3. 25th May 2001 - Sherman Bull, 64, became the oldest climber to scale the summit of Mount Everest. This record broken on 23May 2013 when 80 years old from Japan climbed the Everest.

May 29, 1953 Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and his Sherpa guide Tenzing Norgay from Nepal were the first people to climb Mount Everest. This week marks the 61st anniversary of the conquest. More than 4,000 people since then, have climbed the 8,850 metres (29,035 feet) summit.
