Common Admission Test
Common Admission Test also known as CAT. It is a popular computer based test. CAT examination tests the candidates on various ability like quantitative ability, data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning. This test is taken after under-graduation and its purpose is to admit student into post-graduation programs (MBA etc). The test is conducted once a year and it lasts for 2 hours and 20 minutes. CAT test is conducted in the ‘English’ language.

CAT Syllabus
In IIM CAT exam, there is no fixed syllabus and past exam pattern depict the future papers. The test is divided into three parts.

PART1-
Quantitative Ability
Arithmetic- number systems, ratio proportions, simplification, averages, ages, time, work
Geometry- triangle and circles
Mensuration- areas and volumes
Algebra- theory of equations, permutation and combination,quadratic equations,
Trigonometry and Calculus

PART2-
Data Interpretation and Data Sufficiency
(Line graphs, tables, bar charts, pie diagrams) and (more stress on numeric and percentages).

PART 3-
Verbal ability

English Grammar
English Vocabulary
English Proficiency
English Usage (inappropriate usage of words, commonly confused pairing of words)
English Comprehension
