SCHOLARSHIPS IN INDIA
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Department of Science and Technology
and the Atomic Energy from the Government of India have started a number of
scholarship for school and college going students. The scholarships are meant
to encourage students to pursue research in the fields of science, humanities,
engineering and medicine. There are 4 types of scholarships;
1. Hindu Hitachi Scholarships
2. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana
3. National Talent Search Examination
4. Young India Fellowship
1)
Hindu Hitachi Scholarship-
HHS or the
Hindu-Hitachi Scholarship began in the year 1959 is a collaboration with the
Hindu Newspaper (company based in Chennai, India) and Hitachi. In the year
2009, HSS completed 50 years, and since then Japan has been providing knowledge
and exposure to Indian Engineers with their advance technology and committed
work culture.

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan
Yojana-
KVPY is funded
by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India for its
scholarship program. Its main aims are to encourage students to research in
areas of engineering, science and medicine.
This program started in 1999 by the Indian Institute of Science. It is an on-going program to attract
exceptionally intelligent and motivated students to pursue the fields of basic
science course and research career.

National Talent Search
Examination
NTSE is a
scholarship program (national-level) in India. It is considered to be one of
the most prestigious exams in India. NTSE identifies and recognizes students
with high intellectual level and academic talent. This program is only open to
students belonging to Indian national, and around 1000 scholarships are awarded
every year. Students who wish to appear for this exam have to be studying in
Class X. Since it is organized by an official body (NCERT), it is known to be
the toughest and most prestigious examination at high school level in India.

The Young India Fellowship
YIF is a multi-
disciplinary post graduate program which lasts for one year only. Students have
to under the age of 29 with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any
subject and they also have to have 3 year work experience, are eligible to
apply for this scholarship program. The aim of this fellowship program is to
improve the standard of higher education in India, also to allow for a more
expansive and engaging learning curriculum than the one we already have in the
country. The mentors come from a pool of corporate, civil
and academic leaders who is from all over India. The Young India Fellowship has
been gradually increasing the number of seats and it has increased to 200 in
the year 2014-15.
