Portuguese explorer,VASCO DA GAMA was born in 1460, in Sines, Portugal.
He was the first European to come India Via sea route. He is one of the most famous and celebrated explorers from the "Age of Discovery". This discovery was extremely significant and paved the way for the Portuguese to establish a long-lasting colonial empire in Asia. Floowing the footstep later many other Europeans reached to land of India. French, Spanish and British were few well known name. Although Portuguese reached India first but British had a rule for almost 200 years in India.
Although his ancestors were soldiers but Sea was Vasco Da Gama's first love. At an early age, Vasco Da Gama had learned sailing. At first he used fishing boats to explore some routes to mainlands. As a result, he learned how to navigate and had become well known as an expert sailor. As a little boy, he had a very close friend called Juan Ponce de Leon, who grew up together in the same locality.

The Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire and one of the most important cities in the world, was seized by Turk king Sultan Mehmed II, ruler of the Ottoman Turks in 1453. Which stopped  the way for India for European countries, So this incident made Eropeans to discover the sea route for all other countries and continents.
During this time it was very important to the Portuguese to locate a sea route to India. In 1497, King Manuel of Portugal asked Paulo,(Vasco Da Gama's brother) to lead an expedition to India. Vasco Da Gama was envious of his brother and a terrible fight had happened between them. Vasco Da Gama had won the battle and became chief navigator for this expedition. Gama headed two of the armadas, the first and the fourth, the biggest armada destined for India.

After King Manuel's death, King John III sent da Gama to India as a Portuguese viceroy. Vasco da Gama died of an illness in India on December 24, 1524. Later his remains were sent to Portugal for burial.
 His first trip to India is widely considered a pinnacle of world history as it marked the beginning of the first wave of global multiculturalism and real modern era.
