Having a Career in Rural Management
The study of
rural management relates to planning, organizing, controlling and directing of
co-operatives, allied fields and agri-business. This includes the knowledge of
management studies and applying it in the rural context as well as other
courses in this particular field that are designed in a way so that the
concepts can be applied in real life which deals with rural area and rural
people. Post-independence, rural development has become the prime focus of our
government. Besides the government of India, many private and voluntary
agencies are helping and supporting rural development and management.
INSTITUTIONS
AND COURSES
The Indian
Institute of Rural Management was started by the Government of India at Anand,
Gujarat, so as to provide the needs of professional in rural management. The
course is for 2 years and is divided into 4 semesters. Applicants can apply for
this course after the completion of their undergraduate with minimum of fifty
percent marks. A written exam is conducted which tests the common general
knowledge and the mathematical ability of the students. In this test, the
aspirants should have some additional knowledge about rural management as it is
advantageous for the applicants because it shows their sincere and genuine
interest to pursue the course. An interview is conducted after the test.
After the
completion of this course, the students can apply to the Government of India’s
Rural development Projects or any international Non-Governmental Organization
(NGO). The main criteria is to have a systematic development of the region, and
the person should be able to gather data of several topics like illiteracy
rate, socially relevant information on rural people, development of women and
children and nourishment rate.
